RUSSIA PLANS TO HAVE CYBERWARFARE UNITS READY FOR BATTLE BY 2017

Washington Times on February 4, 2014, reported that Russian Major-General Yuri Kuznetsov has a mission: a new cyberwarfare unit that is ready for battle by 2017. Excerpts below:

Russia plans to heavily recruit new programers to defend its “armed forces’ critical infrastructure from computer attacks,” Mr. Kuznetsov said at a meeting of military officials, defense news website NATO Source reported.

The 2017 goal for the formation of the new units is the first timetable that has been laid out since a Defense Ministry spokesperson confirmed the cyberwarfare plans in August, according to Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

Russia spent $66.9 billion on its security needs in 2013, surpassing the U.K. for the No. 3 slot for military spending among countries.
