GENERAL WILLIAM HAYDEN ON CHINA CYBER WARFARE AND THE NUCLEAR THREAT OF IRAN

General William Hayden (ret.) spoke with the Langley Intelligence Group Network (LIGNET.com) in Washington, DC on April 6, 2013, on the threats of China and Iran. On the Chinese cyber threat he commented on the new law recently passed by the American Congress with attempts to minimize the Chinese cyber warfare against the United States. Excerpts below:

Hayden has yet to come to a final verdict about the new law, but believes the U.S. can do more to increase the consequences China will face if it uses cyber warfare tools against the U.S government and American businesses. He believes the new law is “almost like hitting the Chinese with our carrots, rather than with our stick.”

He also said it may be too late to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons: “I am doubtful, and pessimistic, that we’re going to be able to solve this without someone taking some sort of kinetic action against the Iranians”. Also Hayden was warning that there were poor prospects for diplomatic efforts.
